Edward Baker Takes Up CEO Post With PFSA
The Plymouth Fishing and Seafood Association (PFSA) have welcomed Edward [Ed] Baker stepping into his new role this week as their Chief Executive Officer.
Edward’s experience and passion for the marine environment aligns with the PFSA’s purpose to help Plymouth, and other local fishing communities served by Plymouth, to thrive whilst protecting the marine environment for all.
Edward was formerly the Principal Fisheries Manager for quota management at the Marine Management Organisation. He joined 8 years ago as a Marine Officer, working in Plymouth and Brixham, and has excellent local knowledge as well as a broad understanding of UK fisheries and environmental conservation.
In previous roles Edward has worked on board a trawler in the Channel Islands, as a Fisheries Observer in New Zealand, a Marine Mammal Scientist on board seismic survey vessels, as a yacht skipper teaching cadets to sail, and as an Environmental Protection Officer, Coastguard and Port Control radio operator in Jersey.
Edward says, “Working for PFSA gives me the opportunity to work more closely with the fishermen and organisations whose livelihoods depend on the sea. I am excited and grateful to be able to play a part in the creation of sustainable fisheries that will be there for all generations to come.”
The PFSA aims to provide a collective voice for the fishing industry in Plymouth and the sounding area, to connect the fishermen, merchants, restaurants and shops to ensure sustainably caught fish is readily available locally and achieves excellent prices. Its membership is diverse and includes recreational fishers and scientists.
New members are welcome. It is free to join. Details can be found on the PFSA website at https://www.pfsa.uk/join-us
